We recognize you have many options when selecting a program to best meet your child's needs and we are happy to help you with this important decision. We believe in the value of the camp experience and know that the memories created at camp will truly last a lifetime.
Family Fun Days
Join us at camp this spring for our FREE Family Fun Days. They are scheduled on Sundays from 2-4pm on April 15, May 6 and May 20, 2012. This is a great opportunity to meet some of our staff, participate in some of our programs and enjoy time with your family on the Mountain.
Tours of Camp
Several of our staff call South Mountain YMCA home. We are available to take you on tour of camp and answer any questions you may have. Please contact Sue Williams, our Summer Camps Director to schedule a time to visit.
Our Staff
We have a staff team that is dedicated to providing an exceptional camp experience that will create lasting memories and build life-skills that build youth campers into adult leaders. All this happens because our staff create a sense of community, instill an atmosphere of belonging and facilitate a program that will challenge your child to achieve.
Our Program
We have carefully designed our program structure to meet the specific needs of each age group at camp. Days are filled with age-appropriate activities, new challenges and experiences. Each camper's overall experience will vary by session schedule, cabin group and age.
Safety
The number one priority of all staff is the health and safety of our campers. Quality medical care is provided on-site by our full time registered nurse. Our medical staff work under the supervision of our local pediatrician and we have easy access to two local hospitals. Our staff are trained in emergency procedures and are certified in First Aid and CPR.
We are accredited by the American Camp Association and meet and exceed all PA Health Department guidelines in addition to following the Best Practices of the YMCA. In addition to general counseling orientation and training, all of our program staff are certified instructors in their specialty. The American Red Cross, National Association for the Development of Archery, National Rifle Association, SOLO Wilderness First Aid and the Certified Horsemanship Association programs are all utilized.
Meals
Healthy, family style meals are served three times daily in our centralized Dining Hall. Our food service staff create well balanced, nutritional meals with campers in mind. Counselors supervise each table and encourage proper table manners. A salad bar is available at lunch and dinner and we can accomodate special dietary needs. We are a peanut butter free Dining Hall.
Lodging
Campers live in beautiful cabins with a minimum of two adult staff members and 8-12 campers. We provide a 1:4 camper to staff ratio in our Villages. Six cabins make up a Village and each Village has a centralized lodge and a shared modern bathhouse. We have two Villages for the boys- Cubs and Loggers and two Villages for the Girls- Rovers and Trailblazers.
