Bynden Wood Day Camp Director
Amanda has been working at South Mountain YMCA Camps since 2012 in various roles from camp counselor to outdoor center staff member and, most recently, Youth and Family Director. She attended Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, and holds a BA in Peace Studies. Amanda live on the Mountain with her two cats, Cake and Bmo, as well as an albino corn snake named Indy. She never truly knew what she wanted to be when she grew up, but Camp has been fulfilling in a way that she never thought a job could be. Amanda can’t wait to see all her campers on the mountain this summer!
Camp Conrad Weiser Director
Cory hails from upstate New York and comes to the mountain with 11 years of professional camping experience ranging in the fields of Aquatics, Archery, High Adventure, Teambuilding, Outdoor Science, Trip Leading, Day Camp, and Camp Programming. Cory oversees the Adventure program and is always planning new and exciting activities to serve the members of our community. Cory lives on the mountain with his wife Sarah and dog Olive. You may find Cory sailing, paddling, hiking, or climbing all around the east coast.
Our staff are professional role models who provide the support, leadership and supervision for children to learn new skills, build self-confidence and make new friends.
We are accredited by the American Camp Association and meet and exceed all PA Health Department guidelines as well as following the Best Practices of the YMCA. In addition to general counseling orientation and training, all of our program staff are certified instructors in their specialty.
The American Red Cross, National Association for the Development of Archery, SOLO Wilderness First Aid and the Certified Horsemanship Association are all utilized. Quality medical care is provided on-site by our full time registered nurse.
All staff are individually selected after an extensive application, interview and state and national/federal background check process. The age of our staff ranges from 18-24. We value the diversity in our campers and staff. Each summer 20-30% of our staff travel from around the world to spend their summers with us.
Our staff are focused on meeting the needs of your individual child while facilitating an accepting atmosphere for your child to adjust to and thrive during their time at camp.
At our camps, we expect excellence from our staff. Our team is specifically chosen to be able to excel in a busy camp program and to be able to bring enthusiasm and energy to create an atmosphere of fun for all of their campers. They are hired because they have demonstrated a true desire work with and mentor children and. At camp, our staff take the time to get to know their campers and they are focused on each individual child’s development.
The number one priority of all staff is the health and safety of our campers. We take great pride on selecting the best team to create a FUN, SAFE atmosphere in which your camper can do their best.
