Bynden Wood Day Camp

Inspiring Campers to Explore a World of Wonder

Surrounded by nature, Bynden Wood's outdoor mountaintop facility provides campers with a unique summer camp experience.  We offer a wide range of activities and we are one of the only Day programs in Berks County that offers swimming in an outdoor pool every day.  Bynden Wood's programming is based on the four core values of the YMCA (Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility).  Our staff are professional role models and they provide the support, leadership and supervision for children to learn new skills, build self-confidence and make new friends.  At Bynden Wood, our staff truly beleive that "Children Come First".

The Day Camp hours are from 8:30AM until 4:15PM, Monday-Friday.  Families and campers are greeted in front of Bynden Wood Lodge and the day begins with new friends, songs and Flag Raising. Campers, ages 5 (must have completed Kindergarten) -14, are assigned to their Tribe of 8-12 campers of the same age with two adult counselors. The camp day is full with a diverse activity schedule including one hour every day at the pool for both instructional and recreational swimming.

Meet our Bynden Wood Day Camp Director:  Amanda Griffith

Amanda has been working at South Mountain YMCA Camps since 2012 in various roles from camp counselor to outdoor center staff member and, most recently, Youth and Family Director.  She attended Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, and holds a BA in Peace Studies.   Amanda live on the Mountain with her two cats, Cake and Bmo, as well as an albino corn snake named Indy.  She never truly knew what she wanted to be when she grew up, but Camp has been fulfilling in a way that she never thought a job could be.  Amanda can't wait to see all her campers on the mountain this summer!
